What is your GarageBand version?

In GarageBand 10 you can add an AuPitch Filter to the track to lower or raise the pitch. If you want to use the AuPitch filter, enable the audio Units in the GarageBand Preferences and then open the Smart Controls. To add the AuPitch filter audio units, click the Audio Unit button and enlarge the Smart Controls pane by dragging the dividing line to the Track Area upwards.


Launch GarageBand and create a new, empty project. Select to create an Audio Track. Click the Media button, select iTunes, and drag the audio file into the the empty space in the track area. Now select the track with the song, click the 'Smart Control' button in the Toolbar.

In GarageBand '11 you can transpose the audio region with the transpose slider, if you turn it into a purple audio region. Press control-option-g and then click anywhere in the timeline. All Orange tracks will turn purple.
